There will be an earthquake today in California at precisely 10:18 a.m. People across the state will go into emergency mode, with students ducking under desks, commuter trains slowing down, and first responders going into action.
LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - How can such a stunningly bold prediction be made? Because this earthquake is only a drill.
Across California today, residents will participate in the ShakeOut, an annul earthquake drill that prepares citizens and tests emergency systems across the state.
Even Union Station, the busiest commuter station in Los Angeles serving 75,000 people per day, is expected to ask people to duck and cover as though the real thing were happening.
Schools will conduct drills as well as government institutions.
California is prone to deadly earthquakes, which occur every few decades. The state is vertically bisected by the San Andreas fault, the main divisor between the North American and Pacific tectonic plates.
In addition to the San Andreas, California is fragmented with thousands of other smaller faults. These faults make earthquakes a nearly daily phenomenon with a significant quakes that people feel occurring semi-regularly.
