The rainbow as it was being built last month.
A 94 foot tall metal rainbow has gone up in Culver City. The rainbow is intended to be a prominent landmark paying homage to the Wizard of Oz which was filmed where it stands.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (Catholic Online) - The 8-foot-thick rainbow is intended to draw attention to the quiet neighborhood that now features a bustling art and restaurant scene.

The structure was shipped in pieces to Culver City on flatbed trucks and unveiled today.

The rainbow also fulfills a contractual obligation Sony had with the city.

Sony's contract, signed in 1988, requires the company to contribute to the public arts and improve property values and tourism.
