The system uses DMV records to authenticate registrations.
Californians can now register to vote online. The process will replace paper for millions and speed the process of registering while also lowering costs.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Previously, voters have been required to fill out a paper form and submit it to elections officials who would then add the voter to the local rolls. The online system will now pair the voter with DMV information and use that to confirm their identity and eligibility.

Elections officials will still manually verify applications for those without licenses.

So far over 10,000 people have used the online system since it went online this morning. At least a quarter of all Californians are unregistered to vote. It is hoped the online system will help diminish that figure.
