A doomed tree with a notice marking its fate.
The arrival of the Space Shuttle Endeavour in Los Angeles has not pleased everybody, with many criticizing the necessity of cutting down some 400 trees for Endeavour.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Because the shuttle is so wide, trees and streetlamps have had to come down to make way for its path to the California Science Center.

Some residents, concerned about the loss of trees in their neighborhoods, complained, prompting the Science Center to agree to plant as many as four times the number of trees and to offer both scholarships and job training to locals.

The Science Center says the cost is well worth it, but acknowledges that many beloved, full grown trees will be lost. It will be decades before the newly planted trees regain the same height as those recently cut.
